To make the process easier, here are the most common questions we get from students becoming agents about what it takes to get licensed and start a career in real estate.
Earnings for real estate agents in Louisiana vary based on factors such as experience, location, and the number of transactions closed. While some agents work part-time or specialize in niche markets, top producers can earn six figures or more.
According to recent data, the average annual salary for a real estate agent in Louisiana is over $90,000, based on reports from Indeed. However, salaries can range widely:
ZipRecruiter estimates an average salary of $68,291, with top earners making over $100,000. Glassdoor reports total annual earnings (including commissions and bonuses) averaging $167,000, with top agents making over $200,000.

A career in real estate offers more than just the potential for great income—it’s a dynamic, fast-moving field where no two days are the same. If you enjoy meeting new people, closing deals, and being in control of your own success, real estate might be the perfect path for you.
That said, it’s not a get-rich-quick kind of job. Building a successful career takes time, hard work, and a commitment to ongoing learning.
But if you're willing to put in the effort, the rewards are worth it—flexibility, unlimited earning potential, and the satisfaction of helping people achieve their real estate goals.
Before diving into real estate, it’s important to understand what the career truly involves. Since your income is commission-based, earnings can vary—success depends on consistency, persistence, and the ability to stay motivated through slow periods. Building a strong network is essential, as your reputation and relationships will fuel your business. Top agents stand out by mastering market knowledge and communication, becoming trusted advisors to their clients. Time management and self-discipline are also key, since you’re responsible for structuring your own schedule and staying on task. Knowing these realities upfront can help you decide if real estate aligns with your strengths and career goals. If you're willing to put in the work, it can be an incredibly rewarding path.
