VIRGINIA REAL ESTATE LICENSE RENEWAL

In Virginia, real estate professionals are required to complete continuing education (CE) to maintain an active license. The specific CE requirements vary depending on whether you are a salesperson or a broker:

Salesperson CE Requirements:
  • 16 hours total:
    • 8 hours of mandatory courses (Ethics, Fair Housing, Legal Updates, Agency, and Contracts)
    • 8 hours of electives
Broker CE Requirements:
  • 24 hours total:
    • 8 hours of mandatory courses (same as salespersons, plus Broker Management)
    • 16 hours of electives
Course Options and Submission

These courses can be completed either online or in person through a Virginia Real Estate Board-approved provider. After completing the courses, make sure your CE credits are reported to the Board prior to your renewal deadline to maintain your license in active status.
