Sign up for the required number of CE hours specific to your state’s regulations before your license renewal deadline. Each state mandates different requirements, typically including a mix of mandatory and elective courses to keep you informed about updates in laws, ethics, and industry standards.
CE courses can typically be completed online, in-person, or through live virtual formats, depending on your state’s approved options. Ensure you fulfill both core and elective requirements within the designated timeframe, covering subjects relevant to your practice and state guidelines.
After completing the courses, your education provider will usually report your credits directly to your state’s real estate licensing authority. Be sure to keep your certificates of completion and renew your license through your state’s portal before it expires to stay in compliance.

Salesperson Continuing Education
Vermont real estate salespersons must complete 16 hours of continuing education (CE) every two years, with license renewals typically occurring by May 31 of even-numbered years.
Of these 16 hours, at least 6 must come from the mandatory Vermont Real Estate Commission (VREC) “core” course, which usually addresses state-specific regulations, updates to license law, and best practices. The remaining 10 hours can be fulfilled by VREC-approved electives, covering topics such as fair housing, ethics, property management, or real estate marketing.
Licensees who fail to meet the CE requirement by the renewal deadline risk having their licenses placed on inactive status; to reactivate, they must complete any deficient hours and pay applicable fees.
Broker Continuing Education
Brokers in Vermont are required to complete 24 hours of CE within the same two-year cycle, including the 6-hour mandatory core course. The remaining 18 hours can be satisfied through VREC-approved electives on subjects like risk management, brokerage operations, or advanced legal topics.
Brokers who do not complete the full 24-hour requirement by May 31 of even-numbered years may have their licenses placed on inactive status. In order to regain active status, all outstanding CE must be completed and any associated fees paid. Because specific regulations and approved course offerings can change, licensees should confirm the latest requirements with the Vermont Real Estate Commission or an approved education provider.
